Pagets Gadgets is dedicated to solving your computer, network, wireless connections, and all your home device issues. Whether it be a simple quick fix or a total overhaul of your computer or network Pagets Gadgets will not let you down.

With affordable rates and convenient pick up and drop off or at home service we will solve your problems.  We are located in a small town but in a perfect central location to all  the major areas of Simcoe County. Just 25 minutes  to either Barrie or Orillia, Midland and all surrounding areas. Small town business but big city services just minuets away. Quick Fixes and Tips

  Heat will cause major damage inside a computer. Fans clogged with dirt will not do their job very well. Most costly mistake is to ignore this issue. All computers that come to our shop will get a free cleaning inside and out !! ( $15 value) Savings = hundreds $$$

Junk files collected during almost every action on the computer will cause it to slow down over time. A regular maintenance program setup with us will keep your productivity at maximum. Typically every three months.

Important !

  Wireless networking has many settings that need to be considered. Security is one major overlooked feature. You are sharing your internet with your neighbours if not secured. This will slow down your internet plus they could be using it for illegal activity.

Tips for new computers —   before and after

 purchase

  Laptops, let the battery drain fully when you first purchase it at least 3 or 4 times. Result is a stronger longer lasting battery.

  Desktops, only buy what you need and it will save you lots of money. If you are not going to use the biggest coolest features don’t pay for them.

  Both, key software may need to be purchased but remember there are many free software programs available that can take care of your needs.

  Name brand computers use some of the same parts inside as the generic built machines but cost more. The parts that are not the same cost lots more to replace later.

A few important things to know about your computer….

· Depending on your use, computers do not need to be powered down at night.

·    Back up your data once a month, it’s a simple step to prevent your photos, documents and important files from electronic failure

  The right computer with the right features replaces many home electronics, such as your stereo, your cd/dvd/video player, your PVR, your TV etc. .

Recommended Purchases

·   Increase your storage space and make it portable by purchasing an external hard drive. Inexpensive and they come in many sizes.

·   Surge bars have always been the norm for computers but there is something better. Its referred to as a UPS( un-interruptible power supply) or backup power supply. It will protect against brown outs flickers and spikes in your electricity. Estimated cost is around $100. You can still use your computer and other devices from 30 min. to an hour.

·    Floppy drives have been faded out. Most new computers don’t have them, USB drives are the norm now. They can hold much more than a floppy and are much more resilient and smaller for portability made easy they fit in your pocket or on a key chain.

Features ..

Six plugs, wide plug, thin plug, long plug, blue, red , green pink plug. What do they all mean ? What are they used for? Our technician can explain all the details in easy to understand  laments terms. Computers are built with lots of features that the everyday user may not know what its for and in some cases are losing out on the full potential of what they paid for !!

Internet Quick Fixes

If your internet is acting up or not connecting follow these simple instructions -

  Turn off  the modem and router (if applicable)  by unplugging power to both for a few seconds,  plug power back in ONLY IN THIS ORDER; First plug in modem and wait for lights to setup (about 30 seconds) Once its done then you can plug in router ( if applicable) and again wait for setup(30 seconds) If this simple fix does not work the problem can be resolved by our technician.  We are just a quick phone call away.

Changing Technology

 The new faster way to plug in hard drives and DVD burners pictured above simplifies wires for better air movement and much faster transfer speeds. Newer machines are now coming with E-Sata. What that means to the user is extremely fast transfer rates for external hard drives. Up to 3gb/sec.
